Yoga Nidra-Divine Sleep with Jennifer Vincent

What is Yoga Nidra?

Is it a pose? Guided imagery? An affirmation? A visualization tool? Mind-body therapy? A relaxation exercise? Yoga Nidra can be all of these things, and more--in essence, it's a highly effective meditation technique that's been around for thousands of years.

Though yoga nidra is translated as "yogic sleep," this method is not really about getting in a good snooze. Guided by your teacher's voice, you identify sensations throughout your body and focus on your breath, while (ideally) remaining in a state of relaxed awareness so that you may release deeply held tensions, some of which you may not even be aware.

You will leave your nidra session feeling nourished and restored.

Embodied Voice with Elizabeth Scollan $45

Embodied Voice with Elizabeth Scollan $45

The voice is the most powerful tool of communication we possess. When we speak, we are capable of relaying not only words, but as written by of Kristin Linklater "whatever gamut of emotion, complexity of mood and subtlety of thought [we experience]." Conversely when we are blocked from using the full power and vulnerability of our natural voice, everything else in our physical, emotional and energetic body can feel stuck as well. This workshop we will explore the complexity of our voices through a variety of vocal and physical exercises, group discussion, and personal reflection in order to find greater freedom and access to our embodied voice. These practices make a great addition to your home yoga practice and will augment your experience of your energetic body in the process.

I. This workshop we will.
1)Explore the anatomy and many functions of the voice.
2)Identify and discuss the biases we carry about our own voices.
3)Practice both partner and individual exercises in order to
a)Gain a deeper understanding of how the voice works.
b)Improve our natural articulation, resonation and breath support.
c)Remove tension that blocks us from sharing the power of our embodied voices with students.

Bio: Elizabeth discovered yoga in 2006 as a means to relieve a stressful work life. She was amazed at how much more whole and healthy she felt and has been practicing ever since. Elizabeth completed her 200 hour training in 2011 with Kim Manfredi at Charm City Yoga. The same year, she returned to the study of theatre at Towson University and discovered a profound intersection between artist and yogi. She began her study of voice under the tutelage of Steve Satta at TU and later continued this study in 2016 in a year long program at Dell'arte International School of Physical Theatre. Elizabeth continues to seek ways to merge her life as a performer and a yoga teacher and to share the fruits of this crossover with both communities.

Sacred-8 Yoga Wheel Playshop with David Martin

In this workshop we will explore a Hatha Yoga class where we will focus on key alignment points, some fundamental principles of yoga, physical and energetic benefits, and pranayamas (breathing techniques).  We will first spend some time warming the major joints of the body as well as the spine, moving slowly and mindfully in and out of postures with plenty of holding and breathing time in the postures. Once we reach peak of the asana (posture) practice, we will be begin to slowly coast down into a deeper meditative Yin yoga practice where we will incorporate the Sacred 8 Yoga Wheels.  David created and manufactures the Sacred 8 Yoga Wheels himself.

David will guide you through a beautiful sequence aimed at aligning, recalibrating and elongating your spine, while cracking your heart, hips and shoulders wide open.  This will facilitate in release from muscular tension and stress, increased flexibility/mobility in your joints, deeper, relaxed breathing, better posture and overall health and wellness of the body and mind.  A healthy spine = A healthy mind. Lastly we'll experience poses that provide a counter stretch to neutralize the spine, allowing for a balanced practice and deeper understanding of the joys of back bending before coming into Savasana.  This practice is guaranteed to bring you into a deep connection of body, mind and breath that will facilitate in an enhanced sense of balance and wellness in the Self. This workshop is appropriate for those with beginner to advanced yoga experience.

All attendees will be provided a yoga wheel with option of purchasing one at a discounted rate as well.

Prices:

$35 to attend the workshop

$50 to purchase a yoga wheel

$70 Combo

About David:

Having begun his path of yoga 10 years ago, David has experienced true transformation of his mind and body. David received his 200 hour registered yoga teacher training certification and Reiki master training certification from the University of Maryland Center of Integrative Medicine in 2015. He is now an avid daily student of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and presented by his masterful teacher, Jai Dev Singh Khalsa. The practice and discipline of Kundalini Yoga has allowed David to sustain a deep and rooted connection with his soul/spirit and realize his Dharma, his mission in this life. As a Kundalini Yogi, Hatha Yoga teacher and sound healer, David strives to assist people in developing a greater sense of awareness and how our bodies move and heal in space, as well facilitating deep meditation and relaxation through his playing of the Gong. This process of cultivating mindful awareness of our consciousness is facilitated through meditation, various breathing exercises, sacred mantra chanting and slow, controlled and mindful yet powerful movements linked to our deep breathing. David's goal as a Yogi is to ignite and guide others in keeping the body and voice strong, youthful, flexible and mobile so that we can all lead a long, fluid and inspired life of freedom and abundance during our time in this body. Your body is the temple that houses the divine essence of the creative consciousness that is Light, Love Intelligence. The voice is the projection of the light of the mind and the radiance of the soul. We must have a strong voice and powerful navel acquired through daily spiritual practice to bring this manifestation into reality. We brush our teeth everyday, why shouldn't we cleanse our mind daily as well? Make the choice to sustain that temple as a loving home through daily movement, mindful breathing, chanting, self love and self care.

Flow & Restore Yoga and Acupuncture Workshop with Janice Ingson and Molly Dearstine

Janice Ingson and Molly Dearstine are returning with their very popular collaboration, offering an incredible gift of healing!  This event starts with a 75-minute Warm Flow & Restore yoga class, and is followed by a long savasana enhanced by acupuncture!

The Flow portion of class is movement paired with breath, and is  designed to soften the places in the body where we tend to hold stress.  This prepares us for the Restore portion of class, where the breath itself helps us to relinquish control and settle into the restorative postures.

It’s really quite a lovely healing practice, and Janice is turning up the heat a bit during the Flow part of class to help the softening process.  The room will remain warm and cozy for the Restore portion, encouraging you to soften and allow the props to support you.

The icing on top is that Molly will offer acupuncture in specific points (ear and third eye) that will help you to relax more fully into savasana.

This class sells out, so please reserve your spot ASAP.

“A Love Supreme”: A Yoga & Jazz Exploration with Eboni Adams $25

“A Love Supreme” A Yoga and Jazz Exploration is a workshop that explores the similarities of yogic philosophy and the creative and reflective power of the jazz experience. Using the Bhagavad Gita, sometimes translated as “A Love Song To God” as a guide, we will explore the veil between sacred movement and the creativity of jazz artists such as John and Alice Coltrane. This experiential workshop will help participants to discover inner clarity and personal power using jazz and yoga as guides.

Why Yoga and Jazz?

Music is often used in yoga classes to create ambiance and assist students to focus on their asana practice. The modern practice of yoga is based on ancient principles that guide people to develop enlightenment – pure hearts, clear minds and healthy bodies. Interestingly, despite its strong connection with reflection, enlightenment and creative power, jazz is rarely used in yoga classes. This workshop will explore the continuity between jazz as an art form and yoga as an ancient healing practice.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone with an interest in yoga, dance or music will benefit. This class is a multi-level class for beginners and advanced practitioners.

Format

Set One: Learn about the connection between yogic philosophy, breath, the creation process, jazz and the power of sounds on your personal quartet of body, mind, spirit, and soul.

Set Two: Transform your spirit as you move through asanas with jazz as your guide.

Sacred Mantra Chanting + Gong Bath with David Martin $25

Sacred Mantra Chanting + Gong Bath with David Martin $25

“Mantra is the use of sound to affect consciousness; man means mind and trangmeans wave or projection. Everything in this world, down to the subatomic level, is in constant motion, vibrating. The denser a material, the more slowly it moves; often the vibration is so slow or so fast that we can’t notice it with our direct senses. This vibration is pure energy.” – 3HO.org

Join David Martin for a workshop in chanting of sacred mantras to elevate our vibratory frequency and co-create a luminous field of light, love, and intelligence around everyone in attendance.  Together, we will chant sacred kundalini yoga mantras for a specific duration of time, each with a specific aim toward the body and a desired effect on the psyche.  In chanting, it is often a time when we come face to face with issues of anxiety, self-esteem, self worth and vulnerability.  This is okay!  David has a very beautiful way in presenting this practice to make everyone feel comfortable and assured that his or her voice is that of an angel and longs to be expressed and heard.  We all have a mind and that mind is always chanting something.  The question however, is the mind chanting things that are negative and diminishing to our growth?  Or are we integrating proven, powerful, uplifting and transformative mantras with our sound current to project ourselves into a radiant state of being where all of our wildest dreams become reality?  A few of the sacred mantras that we will chant together are the “Morning Call” mantra, also known as Long Ek Ong Kaars.  This mantra initiates the kundalini energy, initiating the relationship between our soul and the Universal Soul.  We will chant the “Har” mantra, also known as the penetrating sound of God and the mantra for prosperity.  Lastly, we will chant the Guru Ram Das mantra.  This mantra, David’s personal favorite, invokes the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das. It opens the heart center (the 4thChakra) so that we can feel and effortlessly radiate universal love.  We call on Guru Ram Das in praise of his spiritual guiding light and protective grace.  Altogether we will spend 1 hour working with mantra.  All attendees will then, lie down on their backs for an extended savasana (Corpse pose) and receive a beautiful gong bath.  During this time, the sonic waves of sound and vibration produced by the gong bathe the students bodies, minds and electro-magnetic fields, allowing them to completely let go of the physical, relax into clarity of truth and experience deep, profound restoration of their luminosity, radiance and vitality.  This workshop is for all experience levels whether you are brand new to mantra chanting or a seasoned practitioner of this powerful meditation practice.  Sat Nam.

Price of Workshop includes a single class pass to one of David's weekly Yoga & Gong Classes, valid for 3 weeks from workshop date.

Want major "props" for attending a yoga workshop? Oh, you'll get them!

Join Sarah Mayhew for an energizing workshop that utilizes props to encourage flexibility, build strength, and find ways to root down and rise up in your practice. Props support our bodies and encourage us to take risks. They help us settle into an asana posture we might not be able to find on our own. They encourage proper alignment of our anatomy and our chakras.

In this workshop, we will discuss the literal and figurative "props" we have in our life, and how we can surround ourselves with people, ideas, and mantras that build us up and help us connect with our true Selves. We will also have opportunities during the workshop to focus on letting go of the things that no longer serve us and "block" us from reaching our full potential both on and off of our mats. With fun, upbeat summer tunes to keep us moving, we will learn new ways to make bolsters, blocks, straps, and blankets a part of our practice, and cultivate a positive, supportive community with one another.
