“A Love Supreme” A Yoga and Jazz Exploration is a workshop that explores the similarities of yogic philosophy and the creative and reflective power of the jazz experience. Using the Bhagavad Gita, sometimes translated as “A Love Song To God” as a guide, we will explore the veil between sacred movement and the creativity of jazz artists such as John and Alice Coltrane. This experiential workshop will help participants to discover inner clarity and personal power using jazz and yoga as guides.
Why Yoga and Jazz?
Music is often used in yoga classes to create ambiance and assist students to focus on their asana practice. The modern practice of yoga is based on ancient principles that guide people to develop enlightenment – pure hearts, clear minds and healthy bodies. Interestingly, despite its strong connection with reflection, enlightenment and creative power, jazz is rarely used in yoga classes. This workshop will explore the continuity between jazz as an art form and yoga as an ancient healing practice.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone with an interest in yoga, dance or music will benefit. This class is a multi-level class for beginners and advanced practitioners.
Set One: Learn about the connection between yogic philosophy, breath, the creation process, jazz and the power of sounds on your personal quartet of body, mind, spirit, and soul.

“Mantra is the use of sound to affect consciousness; man means mind and trangmeans wave or projection. Everything in this world, down to the subatomic level, is in constant motion, vibrating. The denser a material, the more slowly it moves; often the vibration is so slow or so fast that we can’t notice it with our direct senses. This vibration is pure energy.” – 3HO.org
Join David Martin for a workshop in chanting of sacred mantras to elevate our vibratory frequency and co-create a luminous field of light, love, and intelligence around everyone in attendance. Together, we will chant sacred kundalini yoga mantras for a specific duration of time, each with a specific aim toward the body and a desired effect on the psyche. In chanting, it is often a time when we come face to face with issues of anxiety, self-esteem, self worth and vulnerability. This is okay! David has a very beautiful way in presenting this practice to make everyone feel comfortable and assured that his or her voice is that of an angel and longs to be expressed and heard. We all have a mind and that mind is always chanting something. The question however, is the mind chanting things that are negative and diminishing to our growth? Or are we integrating proven, powerful, uplifting and transformative mantras with our sound current to project ourselves into a radiant state of being where all of our wildest dreams become reality? A few of the sacred mantras that we will chant together are the “Morning Call” mantra, also known as Long Ek Ong Kaars. This mantra initiates the kundalini energy, initiating the relationship between our soul and the Universal Soul. We will chant the “Har” mantra, also known as the penetrating sound of God and the mantra for prosperity. Lastly, we will chant the Guru Ram Das mantra. This mantra, David’s personal favorite, invokes the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das. It opens the heart center (the 4thChakra) so that we can feel and effortlessly radiate universal love. We call on Guru Ram Das in praise of his spiritual guiding light and protective grace. Altogether we will spend 1 hour working with mantra. All attendees will then, lie down on their backs for an extended savasana (Corpse pose) and receive a beautiful gong bath. During this time, the sonic waves of sound and vibration produced by the gong bathe the students bodies, minds and electro-magnetic fields, allowing them to completely let go of the physical, relax into clarity of truth and experience deep, profound restoration of their luminosity, radiance and vitality. This workshop is for all experience levels whether you are brand new to mantra chanting or a seasoned practitioner of this powerful meditation practice. Sat Nam.
Price of Workshop includes a single class pass to one of David's weekly Yoga & Gong Classes, valid for 3 weeks from workshop date.

Want major "props" for attending a yoga workshop? Oh, you'll get them!
Join Sarah Mayhew for an energizing workshop that utilizes props to encourage flexibility, build strength, and find ways to root down and rise up in your practice. Props support our bodies and encourage us to take risks. They help us settle into an asana posture we might not be able to find on our own. They encourage proper alignment of our anatomy and our chakras.
In this workshop, we will discuss the literal and figurative "props" we have in our life, and how we can surround ourselves with people, ideas, and mantras that build us up and help us connect with our true Selves. We will also have opportunities during the workshop to focus on letting go of the things that no longer serve us and "block" us from reaching our full potential both on and off of our mats. With fun, upbeat summer tunes to keep us moving, we will learn new ways to make bolsters, blocks, straps, and blankets a part of our practice, and cultivate a positive, supportive community with one another.

Join Kristen in the new Main Street Riverside Studio for a full moon community meditation. On June 9th, the Strawberry Moon, named by the Algonquin tribes as the perfect time for harvesting ripe strawberries, will rise and illuminate our sky. Also known as the Rose Moon, this full moon is further from Earth than normal, thus appearing slightly smaller in the night sky.
This full moon is said to bring an energetic shift with opportunities for healing. We will begin with some gentle movement to prepare our bodies for this meditation under the Strawberry Moon, with the sounds of the babbling brook in the background.
Our meditation will be completed with dark chocolate covered strawberries.
Self Myofascial Release (SMR) & Muscle Restoration Workshop
Every structure in the body — organs, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, etc. — is covered in a layer of fascia; it allows everything to run smoothly and slide without friction. Through overstress of our muscles, whether through overuse or trauma, our layers of fascia can get tears in them. When the tears don’t heal properly, the various layers of fascia in your body can adhere together in spots (called adhesions), which will cause pain and discomfort. These adhesions keep your muscles from working the way they’re supposed to, which keeps your body from living up to its potential for strong and natural movement.
This is where where foam rolling and other similar exercises come into play. When we put pressure on these adhesions, they are released, and we can get back to optimal physical performance.
SMR Will: Increase elasticity and re-establish range of motion
Restore structural integrity by establishing proper muscle length-tension relationships
Target and break up scar tissue and adhesions
Assist in regaining a neutral posture and restore positive biomechanics
Flush your tissue, create pliability, and decrease pain
--All allowing a given muscle to function more efficiently
We are constantly being vibrated, on a cellular level, by heard and unheard sound frequencies. Sound has a tremendous influence over human functionality. Sound is vibration that causes resonance and rhythm in our bodies, touches us and influences our emotions like no other source of input or expression. Due to the demands of our daily lives, the increase in stress-related disease in modern society is of little wonder. Stress which might be defined as “an overamping of the nervous system”, has many contributors. Many external as well as internal influences have a proven effect on our well being. And so do the sounds of a gong bath and singing bowl meditation.
The Gong is one of man’s oldest therapeutic instruments, and is used in yoga, sound meditation, and vibrational therapy from the distant past to present. A gong bath meditation is an ideal tool for stress reduction, stimulation of the glandular system, and serves as a facilitator to break up emotional, physiological and spiritual blockages. Sound & music are nutrients for the nervous system. The auditory mechanism is a mega-portal to the brain and sonic tools empower health, learning and productivity. Due to its nature, the gong resonates all 30 trillion cells of the body simultaneously in a most powerful & effective way. The goal, in all healing, meditative, spiritual and transformational pursuits is to raise an individuals’ vibratory frequency, and thereby changing a person’s nature of being, restoring the intrinsic state of balance. In a sound meditation session, the receiver lays down in savasana with their head pointed toward the gong and feet facing away. David, the facilitator, assists the receiver in becoming as comfortable as possible before going further. Once comfort is confirmed, David begins the Sound Meditation/Gong Bath by striking the gong lightly, playing singular tones, typically a high tone to signal the receiver to inhale and then a low tone to signal the receiver to exhale. The gong creates a powerful and profound vibratory field and atmosphere in the room or space that the receiver experiences inside and outside the body. The vibration produced by the gong performs a deep ultrasonic massage of the skin, muscles, bones, internal organs... the entire body vibrates deeply on a cellular level. The nerves are stretched. The receiver then falls into deep states of relaxation and meditation that may produce profound revelatory realizations about ones self, the thoughts and emotions stored in each body, life, God, Source, Spirit, etc. We become one with the G.O.D. (Generating Organizing and Delivering force). Therefore facilitating in allowing each receiver to relax and release any tension or dis(ease) in the body that may have been stored there after various types and severities of mental, emotional, physical and spiritual traumas.
Join Danielle Beyers for a gentle candlelit asana flow. From there she will guide you into savasana where Dave Martin will fill the room with sound immersion.
